Parliament opens parliamentary centre in Sekondi

Sekondi, July 8, GNA – Parliament has opened a parliamentary resource centre in Sekondi to bring parliamentary proceedings closer to the public to enable them contribute to the growth of the nation’s young democracy. Addressing representatives of second cycle institutions from the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis on Wednesday Mr Jones T. Kugblenu, the Director of Public Affairs of the Parliament, said MPs would be encouraged to use some percentage of their common fund to support activities of the centre. He said the centre, which is stocked with computer and accessories, novels, as well as periodicals, is opened to everybody especially the youth. The resource centre would also serve as a venue for programmes for parliamentarians.

Mr Kugblenu appealed to school authorities to encourage students to patronize the centre.

In order to promote patronage of the centre, he suggested formation of clubs in the schools to participate in programmes that would take place at the centre.

Mr F. H. Adjei-Donkor, Regional Manager at the Centre, said for now the centre was being marketed to students for them to propagate the information to the public and later move to churches and other civil society.
