Parliament informed of the death of Atetebubu MP

Accra, Sept. 9, GNA – Parliament has been officially informed of the death of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Member of Parliament for Atetebubu North, Mr David Mensah.

A statement from the Office of Parliament, in Accra on Thursday, said a delegation from Atebubu in the Brong Ahafo Region, led by the NDC MP for Wenchi West, Mr Asiedu Nketia, formally informed the House of the death, which occurred last Saturday.

Mr Freddie Blay, the First Deputy Speaker, who met the delegation, said Parliament had lost “a great member of the House whose memory will be cherished”.

He described Mr Mensah as “a quiet man dedicated to the work of the House”.

Mr Blay called on all peace-loving Ghanaians to do their utmost in ensuring a trouble-free election in Election 2004, saying it was only when dialogue on dissenting views was upheld in an atmosphere of tranquility that Ghana’s democratic process could be safely guarded. Mr Nketia, described Mr Mensah as a “dedicated member of the NDC who made brilliant contributions on the floor of the House.” The Majority Chief Whip, Mr Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and the Deputy Minority leader, Mr Isaac Adjei-Mensah, said Mr Mensah made brilliant contributions”.

He will be buried in October.
