Parliament has betrayed Ghanaians – Concerned Clergy

The concerned Clergy has accused Parliament of betraying Ghanaians by approving the nomination of Nana Oye Lithur as Minster for Gender, Children and Social Protection.

“They have betrayed the people of Ghana including themselves… because what they did in Parliament today is a bit of a drama,” said the spokesperson for the group, Bishop Prince Benny Wood.

The concerned Clergy raised serious objection against the appointment of Oye Lithur as Minister designate for the Gender, Children and Social Protection Ministry.

According to them, Mrs. Lithur’s earlier position and pronouncements on gay rights and homosexuality makes her unfit for the position and her approval will influence the country in passing laws to support gay rights.

Nana Oye Lithur’s nomination was however endorsed on Friday by Parliament by a general consensus.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, Bishop Wood mentioned that members of the concerned Clergy will meet on Saturday to take a decision on the matter.

He urged President John Mahama to issue a statement “to make Ghanaians have a rest in their minds. What is the position of government or Nana Oye Lithur herself because she does much with the human rights aspect? …What is the government’s position on the civil rights of homosexuality act itself and not the people?”
