Parliament Grants Special Concession For The Clearance Of Over-Aged Vehicles

Parliament has Under the Act, 598 of the Customs law granted special concessions for the clearance of overaged vehicles from the Tema Port uptill 31st May.

A statement issued by the Acting Commissioner, S.A Hammond, said, “under the Provisions, any motor-car or Commercial vehicle, aged more than ten years imported into the Country and remains uncleared can now be cleared upon payment of all the relevant duties and taxes.” The statement said, vehicles of 1900cc or below, will attract a penalty of One Million Cedis, whilst vehicles over 1900cc will attract a Three Million Cedi penalty.

Over aged Commercial vehicles will also attract a flat penalty of Three Million Cedis.

According to the statement, any of the vehicles which remains uncleared after the expiration of the concession at the end of May, shall be disposed off by the Commissioner of CEPS, in accordance with Customs regulations on the disposal of confiscated vehicles.
