Parliament drags MP to Privileges Committee

Accra, March 18, GNA – The Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North, Mr Emmanuel Aboagye Didieye was on Friday hauled to the Privileges Committee of the House for his claim that suggested that 80 per cent of his colleagues are womanisers.

Mr Aboagye, National Democratic Congress Legislator allegedly made the comment on Adom FM.

Professor Mike Oquaye, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament referred the matter to the privileges committee and gave one week for a report on the matter to be presented to the House. Mr Dominic Nitiwul, New Patriotic Party (NPP) member for Bimbilla who reported the matter to Parliament called on the Speaker to refer Mr Didieye to the committee.

Dr Mathew Prempeh NPP member for Manhyia, who expressed dissatisfaction about the claim of the Afram Plains MP said: 93Such irresponsible statement should not come from the member.” “The seriousness of this matter is of epic proportion,” said Mr Joseph Boahen Adu, NPP member for Amanfi East.

Mr Gershon Gbediame, Majority Chief Whip said parliament was disturbed by Mr Didieye’s claim.

Mr Cletus Avoka, Majority Leader said although the statement could affect the image of the House it was important parliament got access to the speech to understand the content before the matter was dealt with.
