Parliament blamed rain for lateness of MPs

Accra, June 5, GNA – The issue of punctuality in attending to the business of Parliament (MPs) took another turn on Friday, when Mr Cletus Avoka, Majority Leader explained that the lateness of some members was due to the rain.

Mr Balado S. K. Manu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahafo Ano South on a point of order said the reason was untenable because the reason created the impression that MPs were not responsible. He explained that if other civil servants gave such excuses for their lateness to work, would be inconsistent with the President’s commitment to punctuality.

Although the issue generated a debate from the few MPs present, the normal business of the house went on uninterrupted including deliberations on the Plant Bill which was at the consideration stage.
