Parents urged to invest in their children’s education

Asantanso (B/A), Aug. 21, GNA – Parents have been urged to invest in the education of their children instead of spending lavishly on funerals, marriages, naming ceremonies and other social functions. This will enable the youth to acquire skills and knowledge to enable them to contribute effectively to the socio-economic and political development of the country.

Mr John Kwasi Kwao, assemblyman of the Baamiri Electoral Area in the Techiman Municipal Assembly, said these at a forum, organised for the chiefs and people of Asantanso in the area.

Participants discussed strategies for the development of the area to improve the standard of living of the people. Mr Kwao expressed regret that some parents shirked their responsibilities to their children, resulting in some of them becoming delinquent, thieves, armed robbers, prostitutes and drug addicts. He reminded parents that the best legacy they could bequeath to their children was knowledge and skills to enable them to manage their lives.

Mr Kwao commended the government for providing boreholes for the people of Akrufi, Pemhoyesu, Atabooso Number One and Atabooso Number Two, Nyarkokrom, Kwasibourkrom and Woraso, all in the area, to prevent them from contracting waterborne diseases.

He also praised the former Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Isaac Osei-Antwi for contributing to the construction of a three-classroom block for the local junior secondary school.

The Unit Committee Chairman, Mr George Baiden announced that members of the community were contributing 20,000 cedis each towards the development of a Kindergarten.

Mr Baiden appealed to the Municipal Assembly to provide the people with building materials towards the project. Nana Kwasi Nyarko, Chief of Asantanso, gave the assurance that he would release funds from the proceeds of stool lands to support the Kindergarten.
