Nkawkaw, Dec. 5, GNA – The Kwahu West District Director of Education, Mr Seth Koranteng, has urged parents to make regular visits schools of their children to interact with the teachers with a view to assessing the performance of their wards. He said through such regular interactions, parents would know the weaknesses of their wards and adopt the appropriate remedial measures to strengthen them.
Mr Koranteng was speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a 300-million-cedi block of classrooms and staff common room for the Seventh Day Adventist JSS at Domeabra, a suburb of Nkawkaw, in the Kwahu West District.
It was funded by the SDA church, the Parent/Teachers Association (PTA) and the community.
He advised parents not to introduce their children to early trading and other manual work but ensure that they studied at home to improve their performance at school.
Mr Koranteng called on the PTA, Churches and communities to supplement government’s efforts by providing and maintaining educational infrastructure to enhance the standard of education in the country. The District Chief Executive, Nana Kofi Kesse, noted that most of the basic schools in the district lacked infrastructure, such as furniture and teachers accommodation. He said the assembly had decided to organize mock examinations for basic schools annually to enable the authorities access the performance of the children.
Nana Kesse said the assembly was supporting the project with 80 bags of cement and roofing sheets. He urged the SDA Church and other churches to assist the assembly to construct additional senior secondary schools in the district to add up to the only one currently existing.
