Parents threaten to withdraw pupils from school

Kwasibuorkrom (B/A), April 03, GNA – St Henry’s Roman Catholic Primary School at Kwasibourkrom in Jaman South District faces closure as the parents of all the 310 pupils have threatened to withdraw their pupils over the poor state of the school’s structures.

The parents resolved at the weekend that if the Jaman South District Assembly and the Jaman South Education Directorate did not address problems confronting the school, particularly its dilapidated structures, they would carry out their threat.

The situation has prompted the school management committee to convey an emergency meeting of the executive body of the parent teacher association, chiefs, retired educationists and opinion leaders last Tuesday to seek the government’s intervention, after several futile appeals to the assembly and the district education directorate. The PTA Chairman, Mr Charles Osae-Ameyaw, said the three lower classes of streams “A and B” posed a death trap due to the cracks in the walls and windows and leaking roofs.

Nana Joseph Kwasi Nkrumah, Chairman of the School Management Committee, noted with regret that the state of the school had exposed it to unscrupulous people to defecate in the classrooms as well as steal school property.

Nana Bosea George, head teacher, expressed the fear that the school might have to close down during heavy rains since the pupils now study under shady trees.
