Adukrom (Ash), Sept. 22, GNA – Alhaji Ahmed Musah, Member of Parliament for Asokwa-East, has stated that though education at the basic schools level is virtually free in the country, parents still have to play the role expected of them to make its impact more felt in the system.
He said he regretted that since the introduction of the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) programme many parents have stopped buying simple and basic reading materials for their wards with the wrong assumption that the government would provide all such materials.
Alhaji Musah, made the observation at Adukrom when he interacted with the people to explain government’s programmes and Parliamentary deliberations to them. The MP donated three million cedis worth of building materials made up of three packets of roofing sheets, 40 bags of cement and 50 dual desk to the local primary and junior secondary schools for rehabilitation.
The MP reminded parents that it is necessary for them to begin perceiving education as the greatest legacy they could leave behind for their children and as such commit their resources, no matter how meagre to invest their children’s education.
It is not just enough to send their children to school only to end at the basic level, but that their prime objective should be to strive to support them through to the university and other tertiary institutions.
The MP told the forum that he had identified felt needs and problems peculiar to the Adukrom community and had already evolved a plan to help solve the problems soon.
Nana Kofi Fofi, Krontihene of Adukrom and Chairman of the School Management Committee (SMC) of the Adukrom Primary and JSS, who received the items, commended the MP for being sensitive to the problems of basic schools in his constituency.
