Parents must not impose courses on their wards

Mr Frank Ofori, Assistant Municipal Director of Education for Kwahu West, has advised parents not to impose courses on their children in senior high schools.

He said they should rather liaise with teachers at the schools to enquire about their children’s performance and interest areas before guiding them to choose their courses.

Mr Ofori said that would enable the children to choose the schools that offer their preferred courses to ensure easy placement by the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

The Assistant Director gave the advice at a Parent/Teacher Association (PTA) meeting of Blessed Redeemer Preparatory Basic School at Nkawkaw.

Mr Ofori said placements at the SHS were based on raw score in the core subjects, being English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies, in addition to any other two subjects.

He added that any child who would get grade seven in any of the core subjects would not be placed.

Madam Gifty Ako-Nnubeng, Proprietor of the school, said all the 29 pupils presented for the 2013 Basic Education Certificate Examination passed, adding that the lowest aggregate recorded was 16 and most of the students had their first choice schools.

Mr Samuel Adofo, the PTA Chairman, advised parents to have interest in their children’s education, pay their school fees and provide their education needs to enhance their performance.

“Education is the only legacy you can give to your children,” he said.
