Parents advised to spend time with children

Ashaiman, April 18, GNA – Parents have been entreated not to solely commit their time to making money but rather spend quality time with their children to help curb some of the vices in society. Pastor Franklin Nana Agyeman, Senior Pastor of Banner of Grace Ministries at Tema, who made the call on Saturday said lack of parental care was one of the contributing factors leading to the increase in armed robbery and occultism among the youth. Pastor Agyeman stated that, it was not beneficial for parents to make money at the expense of their children, adding that, the future of the country depended on the care given to the present generation. The Pastor gave the advice when his ministry donated assorted items worth 1,100 Ghana cedis to the Save Them Young Orphanage in Ashaiman as part of activities to mark the church’s second anniversary. The items included 10 bags of rice, 50 loaves of bread, 10 cartons of milk, toiletries, soft drink, de-wormer, five gallons of cooking oil, washing detergents, fruits and used clothing.

He said the presentation was in fulfilment of their social responsibility as well as bible doctrine on caring for the needy. Reverend Mrs Colleen Opoku-Amuaben, Co-Founder of the orphanage who received the items thanked the church and called on others to emulate the gesture.

She said the orphanage, which has 54 inmates temporarily caters for missing children sent to the Tema Social Welfare Department since the Department does not have its own care centre. She pleaded with the government to support them with funds as well as land for the construction of a school and recreation centre for the children.
