Parents advised against choosing courses for their wards

The Examination Officer of the Gomoa West District Office of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr. Potential Mark has advised parents not to force their children to pursue subjects they are not interested.

Mr. Mark made this statement while addressing 300 final year students from ten Private Schools at a Guidance Career Counseling Seminar- to help the students on the selection of courses for Senior High Schools (SHS) who are preparing towards the 2015 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at Apam.

He said some students have their natural talents which should guide them to select their subjects.

Mr. Mark urged heads of educational institutions to help students in their selection where they have difficulties.

He advised the students who have financial difficulties to choose schools close their homes.

Mr. E. K. Quarshie, a Resource Person suggested that the JHS and SHS duration should be four years to enable students prepare well for examinations.

The Chairman of the Gomoa West District Branch of the Ghana Private Schools Association, Mr. Hayford Edu Quaye, said brilliant but needy girls in the area who obtain between aggregates 6-15 in the BECE would be provided scholarship up to tertiary level.

He said a Non-Governmental Organization CAMFED is offering the scholarship to promote girls’ education in the district.

Mr. Quaye who chaired the function advised the students against examination malpractices because it could affect their future when they are caught.
