Paramount Chief calls for peace on the Continent

Apam (C/R), June 19, GNA – The Paramount Chief of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area, Obrifo Ahunaku Ahor Ankobea II has appealed to the leadership of the African Union (AU) to put in place mechanisms to ensure that the people on the continent live in peace and freedom. The Paramount Chief noted that, “certain events in some of the countries could make our colonial masters to believe that we were not matured enough to rule ourselves.

“Lust for political power and wealth has made us to be at each others throats and we are tearing the continent apart instead of uniting it.”

Obrifo Ahor Ankobea was commenting on events in Zimbabwe in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Apam. He appealed to President Robert Mugabe to rescind his decision to go to war than to allow the main opposition party, Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) led by Mr Morgan Tsvangirai to lead the country. The Paramount Chief noted that since the President would not be immortalized on the throne, it would be better to handover governance of the country during his life time to enable him to see how things would go before his exit from the political scene.

He appealled to President Mugabe to listen to other leaders who wanted to intervene in the controversy since “the world is a global village and we depend on each other”.

Obrifo Ahor Ankobea, a retired officer of the Ghana Armed forces, urged President Mugabe to ensure the safety of his political opponents and to allow them to go about the campaigns for the upcoming run-off without any hindrance.
