Palmer-Buckle: Ghana needs new generation

Accra, June 29, GNA – The Most Reverend Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle, Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, has said in London that Ghana needed a new generation of Ghanaians, who were ready to sacrifice their comfort for the nation.

He said the drive for nationhood was a difficult process and stressed that with determination, resolve and the will to succeed amidst all odds, the society would blossom with intrinsic values all Ghanaians could look up to.

A statement from the Ghana High Commission in London said Archbishop Palmer-Buckle made the comments at the Chancery in London during interaction with 16 students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), who recently paid a two-week visit to London.

Archbishop Palmer Buckle called on the students to take their studies seriously, saying Ghana needed well-trained resource personnel to play effective leadership roles. The authorities of KNUST and parents of the students sponsored the visit.

Dr Kofi Poku, a Lecturer in Principles of Management and Marketing, led the team.

Contributing to the discussions, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, Minister of Railways, Ports and Harbours, said much as it would be seemingly impossible for all Ghanaian professionals working in vantage positions worldwide to return home, they should explore the possibility of rendering some voluntary service in Ghana during their vacation. He told the students that there were varied employment opportunities being offered by private firms in Ghana and urged them to put their skills at the disposal of the nation instead of rushing out of the country to seek greener pastures elsewhere.
