Palm wine tapper shot dead

Kwame Ladugbe Ahiakpor, a palm wine tapper aged 70, was on Saturday shot dead in the bush near Ave-Havi in the Akatsi North District.

He was shot on the chest and the abdomen.

A police source at Ave-Dakpa told the GNA that the deceased, resident at Ave-Havi, left home for the bush at the outskirts of the town about 1530 hours on Saturday to tap his palm trees.

He said a witness (name withheld) on his way to visit the deceased in the farm, claimed he heard gunshots in the direction where the deceased was working and when he got there found Ahiakpor in a pool of blood, groaning.

The source said the witness lifted him to the village but he died shortly after.

The body has been deposited at St. Anthony’s Hospital at Dzodze pending autopsy.

Meanwhile three people including a woman have been arrested and are now in police custody at Ave-Dakpa, assisting the police in their investigations.

They are Hanna Ahiakpor, Kodzo Nyabadey and Kodzo Ahiakpor.
