Pace setters normally not the winners – Doku

Accra, Oct 19, GNA – Mr Doku Kwei, Campaign Co-ordinator for the Greater Accra of the Dr Kwame Addo-Kufuor Campaign for the Flag Bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has noted that like in marathon race, the pace setters most of the time do not emerge as the winners. “It is the well prepared with a systematic well planned race strategy who tactically conserve his energy and keep pace with the other contestants only to explode at the last lap to win the marathon,” he said.

Mr Doku Kwei who is popularly known as “Field Marshall” said these when he spoke to the GNA at the end of a campaign programme of the Region in Accra on Thursday.

He noted the “underdog status” given to some contestants and the “front runners” others had been described by some Election Research Groups and said “we are going to spring a surprise and DR Addo Kufuor will be declared the winner come the December NPP Congress”.

The Greater Accra Campaign Manager said the Former Defence Minister had demonstrated sterling qualities in many fields as an MP, a Minister and President of the Ghana Medical Association among other areas, which placed him ahead of the other aspirants to be the flag bear of the NPP for 2008 election, he said.

Mr Doku Kwei stated that the campaign of “Brother go Brother come” mounted by people scared of the record of Dr Addo Kufuor had been relegated to the background since the President and his brother were individuals who had to be judged as such.

He said the record of the former Defence Minister as a visionary leader capable of uniting the party and continuing the economic progress achieved by the NPP would guide the delegates to select Dr Addo-Kufuor as leader of the party to the election to ensure victory.
