The tomb of founder of Ghana’s first political party, Mr. George Alfred Grant, popularly known as Paa Grant is now serving as a drinking spot in Axim, in the Western Region.
Many Ghanaians on social media have expressed shock at the location and state of the tomb considering the former statesman’s enormous contribution to the politics of the country.
The photos of the tomb, which was uploaded by Socrate Safo, Director of Creative Arts at the National Commission on Culture, have got many raising issues about the country’s readiness to honour its heroes.
Paa Grant was a merchant and politician in the Gold Coast. His massive contribution in the political space of the country earned him the name “the father of Gold Coast politics”.
The veteran politician founded the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), the country’s first political party, in 1947 with the aim of fighting for political independence.
He died on 30th October 1956.
