Owusu-Agyapong vetted at last

Mr Felix Owusu-Agyapong, Minister-designate for Transport and Communications, whose vetting by the Appointments Committee was suspended last week, made the second and final appearance on Friday.

Mr Freddie Blay, Chairman of the committee announced that the committee was satisfied with the conduct of the nominee after a careful study of documents related to the sale of a UNILEVER property to Mr Sam Jonah, which had necessitated the deferment of Mr Owusu-Agyapong’s assessment.

The Minister-designate, who was all smiles told the committee that the removal of Roads from the Transport Ministry by President Kufuor is to give the road network adequate attention. Consequently, the President will create a separate ministry for roads to ensure that money meant for the sector does not go to any other projects.

He said he would relinquish the chairmanship of his estate development firm when he becomes a minister, as he has indeed, concluded arrangements to that effect.

On communications, Mr Owusu-Agyapong said he would urged the Media Commission to execute their functions properly to encourage decency on the media landscape.

He would also challenge the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to ensure that people who practice journalism are duly qualified and operate within the ambit of the ethics. Mr Owusu-Agyapong pledged to revamp the railway sector by inviting the major users “to help in the re-capitalisation”.
