Over 300,000 children to be vaccinated against Polio

About 368,782 children from zero to 59 months are to be vaccinated against polio in sixteen Districts and Municipalities in the Eastern Region, from next Thursday October 22nd to Saturday October 24.

The districts include Kwaebibirem, Afram Plains North, Denkyembuor and Akyemamsa. The Municipalities are New Juaben and West Akim.

According to the Eastern Regional Coordinator of Expanded Programme on Immunization, Emelia Okai, the exercise is being carried out in all West African countries.

She said the 16 districts and municipalities were selected based on the routine immunization and low surveillance from a research work.

Madam Okai said health personnel and volunteers will go from house-to-house and other vantage areas like lorry parks, markets, schools and mosques to immunize the children.
