Over 1,200 birds perish in fire

Suhum (E/R), March 18, GNA – Over 1,200 birds perished when fire gutted a poultry farm on Saturday dawn at Suhum.

The owner of the farm, Mr Samuel Debrah, told the GNA that the fire was detected at dawn by one Yahaya, who claimed to have heard an unusual noise from the farm and woke up only to realise that the farm was engulfed in smoke.

He said people living nearby who helped to quench the fire while the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were called to assist. Mr Debrah said it took the combined team about an hour to control the fire.

A spokesman of the Fire Service who confirmed the story said the cause of the fire was not known.
