Our leaders must be honest – Nduom

2012 flag-bearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP,) Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has underscored the need for the country to uphold truthfulness.

“…the truth is always important,” he stressed.

According to him, speaking the truth was key to unlocking successes in governance.

Dr. Nduom made these observations in a message posted on his facebook wall at the weekend.

In his estimation, three problems in recent times have kept the county in the dark.

These problems, he mentioned, were corruption in government, Ebola and cocaine.

“Three problems keep shadowing us as I travel outside the country to transact business—corruption in government, Ebola and now, cocaine,” he said.

According to him, everywhere he went people asked those who had been to West Africa in the past 21 days to identify themselves, adding that “there was no distinction between Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and West Africa.

“Everywhere I go, they ask for those who have been to West Africa in the past 21 days to identify themselves—no distinction between Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and West Africa,” he noted.

In this regard, Dr. Nduom admonished his colleagues in the various political parties to be mindful of the corruption tag on Ghana.

“We should all take note. Anyone who has been an MP, Minister of State, Party official—CPP, PPP, NPP, GCPP, NDC, PNC and now business people in general must pay attention to the corruption tag,” Dr. Nduom asserted.

He pointed out that it was important for the country to solve the “gargantuan” problem—corruption or “we sink together under its weight.”

Concerning the issue of cocaine, he intimated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should stop “playing political football” with it.

According to him, the country would lose, if state institutions were weakened so much by “partisan punches” that they cannot solve problems such as this.

“We all stand to lose. Travel and see,” he added.
