Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, has once again reiterated his commitment to introduce free education at the Senior High School level saying it is only the faint-hearted who assume that the policy is not doable.
Nana Addo reiterated his pledge when he visited the studios of Peace FM at Ship House, Abeka Junction, on Thursday September 6, 2012, as part of his campaign tour of the Ayawaso-West Wuogon Constituency of the Greater Accra region.
The visit formed part of his nationwide tour to ‘Restore Hope’ and seek the mandate of Ghanaians in the December 7 parliamentary and presidential elections.
The NPP Presidential Candidate, who pulled in during the airing of PeaceFM’s Working Time programme, again touted his signature policy proposal in a brief interview with Kofi Kum Bilson saying there is no better asset a country can have than an educated populace and would strive to ensure the success of the policy.
He wondered why the policy cannot be possible if poorer countries are even implementing it.
“It is very very feasible; timid hearts and faints hearts are those who can’t see the possibility of it. They can’t see farther than the ends of their nose. There are countries poorer than us and they are doing it. You cannot have a better asset in a country than an educated people. I am very clear in my mind that we can do and it is important that we do something like that for this country…,” he said.
The NPP flagbearer was accompanied by the party’s Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso West-Wuogon, Emmanuel Agyarko; former NPP National Organiser, Lord Commey; Press Aide to Nana Addo, Herbert Krapa; MP for Okere, Dan Botwe; Parliamentary Aspirant for Ablekuma South, Ursula Owusu; Member of NPP’s Communications Team, Titus Glover; out-going MP for Ayawaso West-Wuogon, Frema Opare and Samuel Abu Jinapor.
Asked if the demise of Professor J.E.A. Mills will lead to the NPP altering its campaign message and strategy, Nana Addo pointed out that the NPP is campaigning against the bad track record of the ruling party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) and not against personalities.
Political watchers had believed President Mills’ death will bring about a change in the NPP’s strategy since most of their campaign messages were focused on the late President.
But Nana Addo stressed that the NPP will not need to change its message as President John Mahama is part of the same team.
“We are not campaigning against the personality; it is about the issue and the record of the government. That record has not changed; it is what Ghanaians will base their vote on. For me the personality matter is a small part of the equation. Our message has not changed…” he added.
