Otumfuo loses mother

The mother of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and queenmother of the Ashanti Kingdom Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II has died.

The 109-year-old queen died in her sleep Tuesday morning, sources at the Manhyia palace have told StarrFMonline.com.

She reigned for 39 years and saw the days of Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, who reigned from 1970 to 1999.

Nana Afia Kobi was enstooled in 1977 as the 13th queenmother of the Asante Kingdom since 1695 after the late Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko II who reigned from 1945 to 1977.

StarrFMonline.com sources say the various chiefs in the Ashanti region have been informed of the sad incident.
