Otumfuo charges chiefs to be neutral ahead of 2016 elections

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has charged chiefs in the Ashanti Region not to meddle in politics nor show their political colours as the 2016 campaign heats up.

“Though Nananom has their choice of party, they still need to be neutral by embracing any political party that comes to their palace during the 2016 election campaign.”

The Asantehene gave this charge at the first meeting of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs at Manhyia in Kumasi.

He also charged Nananom to do more on cleanup exercises in their various jurisdiction ahead of the rainy season.

According to Otumfuo, the season comes with a lot of challenges such flooding and sanitation problems, by extension, citing how some parts of Accra and Kumasi flooded recently.

He noted that Kumasi was once not a flood-prone area but due to building on water ways it has become one.

He, therefore, called on Nananom to use the National Sanitation Day as a medium to clean their respective areas and put necessary measures in place to avoid flooding and, more importantly, outbreak of Cholera.
