Otumfuo asked to intervene in Ejura chieftaincy dispute

Accra, June 25, GNA – Mr Enoch Osei Mensah, a senior official at State Protocol, on Wednesday appealed to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to intervene in the Ejura chieftaincy dispute, in order to save the area from the mayhem, often associated with such problems. Mr Mensah, who is also a member of the Ejura Royal Family, observed that Ejura is one of the traditional areas in the Asante kingdom that had enjoyed relative peace for the past 40 years and no stone must be left unturned to maintain the status quo.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, he expressed the hope that the influence and wisdom of the Asantehene would sway over the dispute over the eligibility of Nana Kwaku Sarfo Kantanka Ababio II, the Divisional Chief of the area, who had governed for over four decades. He said Nana Ababio had championed the development of Ejura and was also instrumental in the carving of the area to Ejura-Sekyere-Edumasi District Assembly in 1989.

“I believe it is necessary for all citizens of Ejura to create the conducive atmosphere that would allow such progressive trend to continue and nip in the bud any acrimony and division that would bring untold hardships to the people.”

He stressed: “Let us all give peace a chance, for the sake of posterity and our current pressing development needs.”
