Otto Addo and Black Stars Mourn Victims of Military Recruitment Tragedy

Ghana head coach Otto Addo has extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Black Stars to the families affected by the tragic incident during the recent military recruitment exercise.

Six people reportedly lost their lives following a stampede at El wak recruitment centre, prompting national mourning and widespread concern over the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Speaking from the team’s base in Nagoya, Japan, where Ghana are preparing for their Kirin Cup friendly against Japan, Addo paused football matters to address what he described as a “deeply painful moment” for the country.

“We want to address a serious matter,” Addo said. “The Black Stars extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives during the military recruitment. Our thoughts and prayers are with them in this difficult time.”

The message from the national team has resonated widely across social media, with many praising the coach and his players for showing solidarity in a moment of national grief.

The Black Stars are currently in Asia for a two-match tour as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but Addo said the team’s thoughts remain firmly with Ghanaians back home mourning the victims of the incident.
