Otiko celebrates 55th Birthday at Osu Children Home

Minister designate for Gender Children and Social Protection has in a unique way celebrate her 55th Birthday with orphans, abandoned, disabled children in the Osu Children Home at Accra.

Otiko Afisah Djabah who turned 55years on Saturday 21st of January, 2017 used the opportunity to interact with the authorities of the Orphanage, share some fun time with the children as well as donate some beverages, food items for the upkeep of the children.

She was accompanied by the Member of Parliament of Abuakwa North Gifty Twum Ampofo, Chief Director at the Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection, Mr Kwesi Amo-Himbson and the Director of Social Welfare, Mr. Otoo.

Briefing the Minister Designate on the state of affairs at the Orphange, manageress of the Home Madam Christiana Addo explained that currently the Home serves as a safe place for one hundred and forty-seven (147) children with one hundred and one (101) men and forty-six (46) female. However, there are 48 special needs children.

She hinted on efforts by her leadership and the care givers to provide a safe environment for these children and ensure that they support them as their biological parents will do.

Madam Christiana Addo outlined some challenges facing the home key among which is the limited funds allocated to the Home.

Madam Otiko Afisah Djabah assured the authorities of her support saying that the President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo has called for an all inclusive government and children in these homes cannot be left out.

She congratulated the care givers for their dedication to the well-being of these children and appealed to philanthropists and well meaning Ghanaians to donate to these homes with vulnerable children so as to complement Government‘s efforts in addressing the needs of the poor, homeless, disabled and vulnerable.
