Osu gets educational endowment fund

The Osu Traditional Council has established an educational endowment fund to support school-going children in the traditional area.

Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI, Paramount Chief and President of the Council disclosed this at the launch of the 2015 Osu Homowo Festival at a durbar of chiefs and people at Osu on Thursday.

The festival on the theme: “Harnessing All Resources towards Accelerated Development for Better Community,” is being sponsored by Vodafone, a leading communication company.

The annual Homowo, which literary means hooting at hunger is celebrated by the Ga indigenes.

Nii Kinka Dowuona appealed to businesses in the area to contribute to the fund.

He called on the people to actively get involved in the initiative and that nobody should sit on the fence to look at government alone to shoulder the burden of education.

Nii Kinka Dowuona urged Ghanaians not to frown on their culture saying “traditions and cultures give us our identity as a people and that any nation without culture is lost”.

He asked the citizens to celebrate the festival with peace and love.

The Paramount Chief expressed gratitude to Vodafone and the Christian Council of Ghana for their support to the council.

Reverend Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, General Secretary of the Christian Council and the guest speaker urged Christians to get involved in the celebrations of Homowo not only to hoot at hunger but to tackle the challenges facing the nation.

“We should all join in the celebrations of the festival to hoot at dumsor, Ebola, unemployment and the economic difficulties in the country. Homowo should even be a national festival,” he said.

A number of activities programmed for the festival include health screening and walk, cleanup exercise, games, concert and thanksgiving service.
