OSP Warns of Reinstating Wanted Status for Ofori-Atta if Absent on June 2

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been directed to appear in person before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on June 2, 2025, to address allegations of corruption and financial misconduct. This announcement was made by Samuel Appiah Darko, Director of Strategy, Research, and Communication at the OSP.

The OSP had previously declared Mr. Ofori-Atta a wanted person after he failed to honor multiple invitations for questioning. However, upon receiving assurances from his legal team that he would return to Ghana between May 14 and 30, 2025, the OSP temporarily removed his name from the wanted list.

Mr. Ofori-Atta is the prime suspect in five ongoing investigations concerning alleged financial improprieties, including issues related to the Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited contract, the termination of the ECG-BXC contract, payments associated with the National Cathedral project, procurement of ambulances, and the utilization of the Ghana Revenue Authority’s tax refund account.

In response to the OSP’s actions, Mr. Ofori-Atta has filed a lawsuit seeking an injunction to prevent the reinstatement of his wanted status, arguing that he has cooperated through his legal representatives and that the OSP’s actions have caused significant damage to his reputation.
