Osei recommended as Akufo Addo’s running mate

Agona Swedru, (C/R), GNA – Mr Isaac Osei, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has been suggested to the top hierarchy of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be chosen as running mate to Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo, presidential candidate, for the December general election.
Mr Enoch Kojo Kwakye, a former contestant in the Agona West NPP Chairmanship race, made the suggestion in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), on Thursday at Agona Swedru.
He said it would be ideal if consideration was given to the CEO of the COCOBOD and former High Commissioner to UK who he described as a political, social and economic strategist to partner Nana Addo-Dankwah Akufo Addo, adding that he stood a chance of galvanizing support from across the country.
Mr Kwakye said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had shown clearly that it had maintained about 44 percent in the last two elections, while the NPP votes had depreciated from 55 to 52 percent and that since this year’s contest would be tough, it would require a political genius to assist the presidential candidate to enable the party to retain power.
Mr Kwakye, who is also Managing Director (MD) of Agonaman Company Limited, stated that Mr Osei was a true, loyal and dedicated member of the party with unblemished record, capable of assisting the presidential candidate to win landslide.
He stressed that since he assumed office as CEO of the COCOBOD, there had been tremendous improvement in the cocoa industry and sharp increase in the producer price of cocoa, saying that bonuses had also been paid to the good cocoa farmers through out the country. Mr Kwakye stated that sheanut production had also received major boost in the Northern Region and farmers had developed keen interest in its cultivation for export to earn foreign exchange, since he assumed office.
According to Mr Kwakye, his current position as CEO of COCOBOD would help to mobilize votes, especially from farmers across the country.
