Osei Kyeretwie Sec. School to punish deviant students

Kumasi, July 26, GNA – The Parent/Teacher Association (PTA), of Osei Kyeretwie Secondary School, in Kumasi, has unanimously endorsed the decision by the school authorities, to punish deviant students. The PTA has mandated the Headmaster and staff to employ acceptable methods to enforce discipline.

The Association took the decisions at its annual meeting that deliberated on student riots that led to the temporary closedown of the school.

The meeting asked the school authorities to withhold the promotion of any student who fail three of the eight mandatory subjects of the internal promotion examinations.

Mr D.K. Asamoah, Chairman of the PTA, appealed to parents to advise their children to abide by the school’s laid-down rules and regulations. Mr. K. Opuni-Boachie, Headmaster, said the use of mobile phones by the students and the emergence of gangs with names like Al-Qaeda, Taleban, Disturbing the Peace, and Gangsters Israel Club were undermining discipline.

To check these developments, the Headmaster said classes are being organised for students during weekends, while the School’s visiting hours have been restricted to the first Sunday of every month. Mr Opuni-Boachie said school fees arrears of 127 million cedis were impeding development programmes.

He appealed to the PTA to assist in fencing the School’s campus to ward-off encroachers.
