Osei Assibey was not my preferred choice as KMA mayor – Mensah-Bonsu

Minister of Presidential Affairs and Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has confessed his choice for the position of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly was not Osei Assibey Antwi.

“I wanted the position for two persons from Suame. Nana Kofi Senya, the immediate past Presiding Member of KMA and Assembly man for New Suame and one Dr. Osei Bobbie who is a lecturer at KNUST”, he revealed on a radio station.

He explains that knowing Nana Kofi Senya as experienced person who campaigned for NPP in the constituency and Dr. Osei Bobbie who is also an intellectual person reason he suggested their names to the President for consideration.

“Both supported me in my primaries and the general elections. So I suggested to the party leadership that they are the best for the position. But because am not the appointment authority, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi was nominated for the position”

“Though I do not have any malice against Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi becoming the Mayor, I believe it is time someone from Suame Constituency occupies the position”. He stated

Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu who is also ex-officio member of the Assembly revelations come at the back of allegations against him by the Assembly man of Kwadaso Electoral Area, Kwame Kwakye that the MP offered scholarship packages and other incentives to some members to reject Assibey Antwi during confirmation.

Kwame Kwakye however backtracked on the allegations made but the MP has confessed he wish the position should have gone to a person from Suame
