Accra, April 20, GNA – The Ministry of Education and Sports on Thursday sent a message of success to all candidates taking this year’s Basic Education Certificates Examination (BECE), which begins on Monday, April 24 to April 28 this year.
A message signed by Mr. Yaw Osafo-Maafo, the sector Minister said, it “has the pleasure to wish all the candidates nationwide throughout the examination period, good health, courage and success.” It said, “We are confident that all of you will abide by the West African Examination Council regulations and eschew cheating and any form of indiscipline at the examination centres.
“You have worked hard in preparing for this examination and we know that you will come out with flying colours. Your teachers, parents, friends and the general public are behind you.”
In another message, Mr. Osafo-Maafo urged candidates sitting the West African Secondary School Examination (WASSCE) to tackle their papers with confidence and success would smile at them.
It said: “at this time when you are facing your future by writing the West African Senior Secondary School Examination, my dear candidates it is fitting to extend our warmest congratulations to you for having studied very hard in preparing for your examination, knowing the importance of education.
“Remember, at this time all your counterparts in the Anglophone countries in the West African sub-region are taking part in the same examination.”
The message therefore asked them to go to the examination halls with confidence and fortitude and know that all stakeholders in education were solidly behind them.
The message said: “as you write the examination we wish to caution you against any act that can undermine the conduct of the examination, such as cheating, which will jeopardize your future career. “We wish you success and God’s richest blessing as you go to the last lap of your secondary school education.” The message congratulated all teachers who had worked hard to support the candidates for their good work and with the trust that “you would be careful and vigilant as they supported their dear candidates to write the examination.”
This year a total of 122,621 candidates made up of 68,978 males and 53,643 females are writing the WASSCE at 507 centres nationwide from 546 senior secondary schools. 20 April 06
