ORPED supports schools in Volta Region

Accra, Nov. 20, GNA – Organisation of Rural Primary Education Developers, (ORPED) Ghana has extended its “Million Balls Project” to educational institutions in the Volta Region. The Million Balls Africa Project is an initiative of ORPED Ghana which seeks to raise one million soccer balls to be distributed freely to children across Africa ahead of the 2010 African Cup of Nations in Angola. The exercise is expected to inspire children to develop their talents with the hope of producing the next soccer icons within the shortest possible time.

ORPED as part of its agenda, donated 31 footballs and other equipment to three schools – Sogakope JHS B, Combone JHS and SOGASCO JHS), in the South Tongu District with each school receiving ten footballs each. Charles Cobbina, Chief Executive Officer of ORPED Ghana, tasked the children to take their lessons seriously as this is the only way they could achieve their aims in life.

He took the opportunity to advice the youth on the effects of climatic change and its effects on the environment and stressed the need for them to engage in tree planting activities. Mr Cobbina urged the children to make the most of the opportunities provided them by reading their books frequently and to train well to become national heroes in the future. 20 Nov. 09
