Opuni will be vindicated – Sam George

Former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Cocoa Board, Dr Stephen Opuni, will be exonerated in a case of financial malfeasance for which he is being investigated by the Economic and Organised Crimes Office which has led to his assets being frozen, Sam George Nartey, Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, has said.

The former Cocobod boss is being investigated in connection with some financial irregularities uncovered by the new government.

President Nana Akufo-Addo last January fired Dr Opuni. Officialdom met him on several occasions over investigations into his tenure of office.

A letter signed by the president’s Executive Secretary gave Dr Opuni up to the end of Friday, 13 January, to leave office.

According to the letter dated Thursday, January 12, Dr Opuni “ceases to hold office as CEO of Cocobod upon assumption of office of President Nana Akufo-Addo”.

Mr Nartey, commenting on the matter on his Twitter account, said: “Dr Opuni will be vindicated. This mercenary governance style MUST stop!”
