Opposition political parties have rubbished a poll by the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) that puts the New Patriotic Party ahead in the December elections.
The results of the survey contained in CDD-Ghana’s latest Afro-Barometer Survey indicate that the NPP would win by 46 per cent if elections were held in March this year.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) had 23 per cent, the Convention People’s Party (CPP) three per cent and the People’s National Convention (PNC) one per cent.
The NDC and the CPP have questioned the poll.
The General Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Johnson Asiedu-Nketia has dismissed the report.
He told Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoe the NDC could not understand why it obtained 23 per cent while the poll showed that the NPP was losing popularity.
According to him polls conducted by the NDC indicate that the party will win the December elections by more than 50 per cent.
Mr. Asiedu-Nketia said the 27 per cent of voters who refused to declare their voting preference are likely to vote for the NDC.
That, he said was because the CPP and the PNC can only grow at the expense of the NPP.
The General Secretary of the CPP, Mr. Ivor Greenstreet said he thought the NDC should have done better than the NPP.
“The figures are quite bizarre. I don’t know the basis upon which they made their calculation….but if I was being entirely honest with you, I would say that from where I stand the figure should be the other way round. NDC should have 46 per cent and NPP 23 per cent”, Mr. Greenstreet said.
