Nkwanta (V/R), Oct. 12 GNA – Only one woman among the seven, who contested the District Assembly elections in the Nkwanta District was elected.

Madam Vorlamesi Mawusi Joyce, 47, a trader, who contested the Bontibor/Salifu electoral seat defeated three male contestants, including the incumbent.

Mr Emmanuel Abeam Danso, Nkwanta District Electoral Officer disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Nkwanta on Monday. Mr Danso said voter turnout for the elections in the district was 53.3 per cent and named Nyambong Electoral Area as recording the highest turnout of 98.2 per cent and Odumase/Ashiabre Electoral Area, the lowest, recording 34.4 per cent.

He said out of the 30 electoral areas in the district, Unit Committee elections took place in only nine areas and added that 53 units did not file nominations.

“This is one of the successful elections in the district because logistics were provided on time, the election was violence free and no protest has been registered”, Mr Danso said adding that the only problem encountered was with bad roads to the communities.
