Only ignorant aspiring MPs will make promises – Minority Leader

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, says only ignorant aspiring members of parliament will go about their campaign making promises to the electorates.

“Those who don’t know the work of parliamentarians are those who give promises during campaigns,” he said on Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene on Wednesday.

Ahead of the December 7 general elections this year, both presidential and parliamentary candidates have been promising the electorates of the provision various development projects in exchange for their votes.

But according to the New Patriotic Party MP for Suame in the Ashanti Region, it is only those who do not know the work of a member of parliament that will campaign on promises.

He explained that members of Parliament are not development agents but rather legislators, noting it is for this reason that most MPs fail to deliver on their promises, especially, those from the opposition side.

“I don’t give promises… but I urge them to vote for me,” he said, and admitted that some roads within his constituency are in deplorable shape but said that is something he is working on to fix.

Kyei Mensah-Bonsu also claimed that “my salary for 20-years can’t construct a one-kilometer road.”
