Only 40% of power consumers pay bills – ECG

Officials of the Ashanti regional directorate of the Electricity Company of Ghana have revealed that only forty percent of power consumers pay their bills willingly.

According to the power distributor, debtors would soon be chased with the police as part of a revenue mobilization drive.

Erasmus Kyere Baidoo, the Public Relations Manager for the Ashanti regional office of the ECG said people are not willing to pay their bills.

“What we have noticed is that people do not willingly pay their bills at least we have about only 40 percent of our customers who pay their bills willingly.”

“The remaining 60 percent, who are the chunk, wait for us to chase them. This time we are going to do so with the Police and the court. We are going to arrest all those who are owing us…we are going to go at them with the Police and then prepare them for court.

Baidoo said the ECG has been compelled to take the drastic action to enable settle its debts to power providers.
