Only 36 percent of roads in Sunyani in good condition

The Municipal Director of the Department of Urban Roads, Engineer Oliver Biga has stated that of all the roads in the municipality, only 36 percent can be rated as good with 16.08 percent as fair and 47.3 percent as bad. He was speaking in an interview on Suncity Morning Drive Programme in Sunyani. Eng. Biga explained that there are 223 kilometers of roads within the municipality but due to lack of finance, the roads are not properly maintained resulting in the huge percentage of bad roads. He also hinted that, the city is expanding at a faster rate than the rate at which roads are being developed thus adding more to undeveloped roads in the municipality. Touching on roads under construction within the municipality, Eng. Biga said they are being done at a slower pace due to non -payment of jobs done. He urged the public to continue to have confidence in his outfit and the Sunyani Municipal Assembly, and advised against indiscriminate parking especially, along dual carriage roads since it contributes to the many pot holes on the roads.
