One time premium NHIS to kick start in December next year

Kumasi July 16, GNA – Mr. Sylvester Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), has said the one time premium payment by clients would commence by December next year.

He said all is set but the scheme is waiting for a multiple validation from the International Labour Organization (ILO) which would take sometime but it would be ready for implementation by the set date. Mr Mensah was briefing the press in Kumasi on Tuesday after touring Ejisu, Bekwai, Bosomtwe and the Asokwa NHIS offices as part of his tour of the northern part of the country.

He said the Information Technology (IT) unit of the scheme would also be looked at again to help make its operations more effective. Mr Mensah expressed concern that hundreds of ID cards had been printed and released to the offices but are not being collected by their owners. He said plans were being put in place to reduce the length of time taken to sort out cards and their collection.
