One of Mahama’s ‘killers’ found dead

One of the several people captured on video lynching Captain Maxwell Mahama has been found dead at Modoase, a community near Denkyira Obuasi where the gruesome killing of the army officer took place.

The circumstances of his death are not yet known, however, a polythene bag found in the grip of the deceased had an ID card bearing the name Francis Bio, aged 46.

Police officers found the body in a puddle of blood on Thursday and have begun investigating the cause of death.

Confirming the story, Diaso District Commander ASP Osei Adu Agyemang told Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah: “The Assembly Member for Modoase Area, one Mr Isaac Aidoo, lodged a complaint with the Diaso Police informing them about the discovery of the body of a male adult in front of an uncompleted building at the outskirts of the town.

“According to the Assemblyman, this body was found this morning when residents from the community woke up…”

Meanwhile, Captain Chubby Adam Mahama (rtd), father of Captain Mahama, has said his son was such a gentleman to the extent that he would not hurt a fly even though he was a military officer.

“I tell you he cannot kill a fly, he wouldn’t do it because he is so sober, so gentle, so caring, a very caring boy,” Captain Adam Mahama (rtd) told Kojo Yankson on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, 1 June.

He wondered why the people of Denkyira Obuasi exhibited such savagery against another human being on a mere suspicion that he was an armed robber when they had not caught him red-handed perpetuating the crime they accused him of.

So far, seven suspects have been arrested by the police, including the assemblyman for Diaso who mobilised the townsfolk to pounce on the father-of-two after some women from whom he had allegedly asked for directions spotted a pistol on him.

The body of the deceased captain has been taken to the 37 Military Hospital.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as well as former presidents John Rawlings and John Mahama have condemned the lynching.
