One NPP woman gets nod to contest seat in Central Region

Cape Coast, May 10, GNA – Only one woman won the primary to contest Election 2012 as a parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region. Mrs. Mercy Hawa Koomson won to contest for the Awutu-Senya seat at the recent NPP primaries held throughout the country. The Central Region has 19 parliamentary seats. Four other women who contested and lost are Ms. Christine Churcher, the former MP for Cape Coast, Mrs. Henrietta Abane, a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast who also vied for the Cape Coast ticket, Mrs. Bertha Oppong, for Upper Denkyira West and Mrs. Cynthia Morrison, Agona West. Mr. Kwamena Duncan, the NPP Regional Secretary, said 51 people contested the primaries and that those who lost had pledged their support for the winning candidates. 10 May 11
