One killed in renewed land dispute

One person has been found dead at Sayeegu in the Bunkprugu district in a renewed land dispute between two communities – Sambiluk and Sayeegu.

Yenube Didiuk, 26, was gunned down by unknown assailants when he was travelling from Sambiluk to Nakpanduri.

The body was found at a farmland at Sayeegu village where the Boukteeb and Tanmung families have been fighting over a parcel of land.

At least 22 people have died, several properties destroyed and scores displaced in the clashes between members of the two farming communities.

In April this year a police officer, Constable Frederick Dadzie was shot and over 70 houses completely went up in flames when violence broke out between the neighbours.

The death of the youngman is said to have heightened tension in the area as residents of Sambiluk were said to be blaming their rival for the dastardly act.

Police in the area have confirmed the recent murder and said the body has been deposited at a hospital in Bende, a community near Bunkprugu.

“We found a young man lying in the bush and upon examination on it, we suspected that it was a gunshot. We took the body to Bende hospital for post-mortem and after we will release the body to them for burial,” the police said.
