‘One District, One Factory’ hit by land inaccessibility – Minister

The Deputy Minister for works and Housing, Hon Eugene Antwi says government’s policy of one district one factory is likely to be hit by land inaccessibility in some parts of Ghana.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based radio Abusua Fm, the Minister said his assertion is based on challenges he has experienced himself in his quest to secure land in his constituency for the ‘one district one factory’ project.

Mr Eugene Antwi who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin Constituency in the Ashanti Region appealed to land owners to lease lands to government for this noble exercise.

“Most of us in the cities will not get land to execute the one district one factory project. As I speak now, we are even finding it difficult to get a plot to build a party office in my constituency. I have tried all that I can, there is no land anywhere”,he cried.

About 35 factories are expected to be built in Ashanti Region alone under the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

One district one factory is one of the major campaign messages the New Patriotic Party (NPP) championed during the 2016 general elections in Ghana.

According to Mr Antwi, there is no vast area of land in the constituency hence that will make it very difficult for the government to execute its vision.

“Building a factory, you need a vast area to do that. Now where exactly are we going to implement ‘one district one factory’ in Subin?” He quizzed.

He however noted that, the constituency is rather going to enter into building warehouses instead of factories since there would be land available for that.

“The warehouse will target long vehicles from the south to the Northern part of the country etc”, he explained.
