One candidate withdraws from by-election

Tamale, March 22, GNA – Mr Yahaya Fuseini, one of the independent candidates contesting the Tamale Central by-election, has withdrawn from the race to support Prof Wayo Seini to win the seat.

Mr Fuseini, 30, told the GNA in an interview on Tuesday that the decision to withdraw from the race to support Prof. Seini was because they had the same vision to help the people of Tamale Central. He claimed that in his absence in the race Prof. Wayo Seini was the only credible candidate left in the race, hence his decision to throw his weight behind him to win the seat.

Mr Fuseini mentioned peace, development and employment generating opportunities for the youth as some of the visions he and Prof. Seini shared.

Five candidates, three supported by political parties and two running as independent candidates, are now contesting the Tamale Central Constituency by-election scheduled for April 4, 2006. Prof Alhassan Wayo Seini, 60, an Agricultural Economist, whose resignation from parliament on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) prompted the election, is running as an independent candidate.

Mr Ahmed Adbul-Rahim, 42, is also running as an independent candidate.

The NDC has fielded Mr Inusah Abdulai Fuseini, a 44-year-old lawyer, Ms Rita Adams Rukaya, a 41-year-old teacher, is Democratic People’s Party candidate while Mr Alhassan Basharu Dabanli, a 41-year-old electrician, is the candidate of the Convention People’s Party.
