Buduburam (C/R), Aug. 13, GNA – Mr Thomas Broni, Deputy Minister for the Interior on Friday commissioned a clinic and medical equipment worth one billion cedis at the Buduburam Refugees Camp, which were provided by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The clinic is meant to provide a ready response to the medical needs of the community.
Mr Broni urged the people of Buduburam to strive to maintain and keep the clinic clean and functional for the benefit of future generations.
He said people should take preventive measures to ensure good health since the cost of health care was no longer cheap, stressing that: “Most diseases are preventable and with a very clean environment we can all reduce the burden on this clinic.”
The Minister advised people living in Buduburam to pay attention to the massive public education campaigns by the Ghana AIDS Commission, saying “No one is immune to HIV/AIDS so we must not ignore the campaigns with contempt and think that it will never happen to us.”
Mr Broni commended the UNHCR and the Catholic Diocese of Cape Coast for their contribution in ensuring that health facilities were brought to the doorstep of people in Buduburam.
He pledged government’s continued support in providing the needed infrastructure for the refugee camp.
Mr Thomas Albrecht, a representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said the clinic was staffed with medically certified members of the refugee community to provide efficient service to the community. GNA
