One billion cedi in-service programme for Northern Region health workers

Tamale (Northern Region) 25 Jan. ’99

The Northern Region Health directorate has earmarked on a one billion- cedi for a three-year comprehensive in-service training of all categories of health workers. This is in line with the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) human resource management policy which provides that every health worker must at least be exposed to one in-service training every three years. Some of the workers have not received any form of training in the past 10 to 15 years, Mr Emmanuel Maaweh, Regional in-service training co-ordinator, told the GNA in Tamale. The training is designed as part of measures to boost public confidence in health delivery services, he said. It will cover subjects like data collection, report preparation, stores and supplies management, basic training in effective communication, malaria management, rational drug use, integrated surveillance and epidemic management. There will also be a district and sub-district training assessment of health service providers to help streamline their activities and give them basic training in book keeping and financial control.
