Winneba, June 6, GNA – A quick response to a distress call by a highway patrol team and the Winneba Police led to the killing of one armed robber and the arrest of two others on Saturday.
A spokesman for the Winneba Police told the GNA that those arrested are Shaidu Adamu and John Ennison, the driver of the taxi cab with registration Number GR 5973 Y being used by the robbers.
The name of the deceased is not yet known. According to the Spokesman at about 0200 hours on June 4, the two police teams received calls that some armed robbers, numbering about 15, had blocked the Winneba/Kasoa road and were robbing passengers. When the police got to the scene the robbers engaged them in a shootout during which one of the robbers was killed, two arrested and the rest fled into the bush.
The spokesman said the two robbers arrested had been identified as having come from Awutu Bawjiase and one short gun was retrieved from them. The spokesman said some of the robbers escaped with gunshot wounds.
